Almost all motorcyclists have heard of the Tail of the Dragon. It is a section of US Hwy 129 that runs through Deal's Gap in Tennessee. There are 318 turns in 11 mi. Riding the tail would definitely be conquering a fear for a flatlander like myself. I've gotten an invitation to ride along with friends next spring. Hopefully I won't end up at the bottom of Deal's Gap as a crispy critter.

Hi Julie. Thanks for visiting my blog. I noted that you ride...I have an '03 Shadow and a '99 RT.
If you have the chance and the means, I would also suggest a ride up the Cal central coast via the PCH (CA-1). Also, CA-33 from Ventura past Ojai is a good one, as well as taking US-89 past Mt Shasta and through Lassen Nat'l Park.
I'm in Wyoming now, so within striking distance of Sturgis. Maybe I'll see you there...
I have a 2005 VTXR 1300. It's being held hostage at my bike repair shop right now. I've had a run of bad luck which started innocently enough with an impromptu oil change. That morphed into needing a new back tire and brake (2nd time this season) and they screwed up the exhaust gaskets and didn't have any in stock so I was making my 3rd trip back when they discovered my starter was going out. I can do my own oil changes and change spark plugs, and headlight bulbs, but if it gets too much more complicated than that, I just do a lot of @%$#&^%$##. So, since they don't stock the starter part either, I paid to have it overnighted and should have my beloved machine back tomorrow. I got stuck walking home from work last night (7.5 m) and I had to drive my Vue which almost didn't start since I've only driven 4 times since March. So, I'm not really a 1%er but sometimes I feel I'm just as much a biker as any weekend warrior.
As for riding the CA coast, that's still a few years in the future for me. My youngest just turned 18 and he'll be heading off to college next year. As for now, I still like to be home for dinner most nights. You know? I have managed to put 11,000 mi. on this summer (thusly the need for brake and tire) but mainly just running up and down the state.
