Some of my favorite friends are trees

Ever since I was a little girl, I've loved trees. Even better than just being in a tree was climbing up with a good book to read and a treat to munch on. Well, that was then and this is now. I'm not a LITTLE girl anymore. I saw this tree on my first hike with Kirk at Huntington Reservoir. It looked like a great climbing tree, but when I got closer I discovered that first branch up was going to be a doozy. I used the little tree in the right foreground to pull myself feet first over the doozy branch. The whole time I was pulling myself up, I was supremely conscious that the view that Kirk was seeing was probably not very attractive. But I'd already stated my goal and by God! I was going to get up in that tree with "no pushing"! I made it and after I surveyed the horizon and felt the wind lift my hair for awhile I remembered that I still had to climb down. Oh crap! I won't let anyone see those pictures. It was worth it just to feel like a kid again and be up there with a bird's eye view.

If you need a great picture-book about trees, try Our Tree Named Steve written by Alan Zweibel and illustrated by David Catrow.
