He has not learned the lesson of life who does not every day surmount a fear. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

I got into a bit of a discussion with a guy who I went out with a couple of times about guns. He had a lot of guns and I allowed my mouth to get ahead of my brain when I said I could find statistics showing more gun owners than non-gun owners being injured during home invasions or robberies. After nearly going blind reading government crime statistics, I had to admit defeat. I still believe that guns in the home are a real safety concern, just not for the reason I thought. If there were any statistics comparing non gun owners to gun owners during home invasions, the government has hidden them very well. There were warnings of statistics for suicide rates being higher for gun owners. Now there's a depressing statistic. I've contemplated getting a gun license so I could carry one with me on the bike. It's funny, I rarely feel insecure while on the bike. It's when I stop and get off it that I start feeling vulnerable. I wonder how many women riders carry a firearm with them for protection? and whether they'd ever felt the need to use it?
