Owl Totem

I've heard the owl in the morning 3 or 4 times now. This time I went to the back door and tried to repeat its call to see if I could roust it out, but no luck. It has to be nesting nearby since I've heard it so many times. I did some online searching and found audio files of owl calls and the one that sounded most similar to what I heard was the Great Horned Owl.

I wasn't sure if they were indigenous to Indiana, but according to this web site,

http://www.ulib.iupui.edu/collections/birds/bird154_1.html

they're prevalent throughout the state. I also learned some interesting tidbits, such as; they don't build their own nests, but take over abandoned nests of crows, hawks, even squirrels and they lay their eggs in the winter. It's odd that I've come into contact with owls so frequently in the last year. Granted, I have been hiking more, but now the owl seems to have followed me home. J told me about an eerie experience he had as a child encountering a white one in the barn and then the first hike we took together we saw and heard one. It started me thinking about animal totems and the possible meaning of encountering so many owls.

While googling around, I've found some interesting excerpts about owl totems and people connected with them.

the feminine, the moon and the night.

excellent read! I like hearing your thoughts...so cool RE: OWL TOTEM.

I believe in these things, even though I am so unwieldy in nature, that the animals are laughing at me, rather than running from me, or finding themselves attracted to me. LOL
Nice read, thanks so much
