Took a drive down to Huntington to hike at Kokiwanee and a new site called Hathaway that was donated to Acres in 2007. It was gorgeous with great variety of terrain so I got a few good hill climbs in. I'm guessing that it will be bursting with wildflowers in another week or two. The skunk cabbage was abundant. The violets are starting to come up. I saw a few tiny trilliums and thanks to the new book that I got from Hydes, I learned that the Native Americans used the juice from the trillium as an eye medicine, the root to ease the pain of childbirth; I also learned that the red trilliums are commonly referred to as "Stinking Benjamins" (what a hoot!)
Just after I took the photo of the book titles, Monster crashed the party literally and dumped the vase of flowers. Luckily the books didn't get wet, but the tulips that J brought me are now only shredded stems.
