Monday - Edge Day

It's back to the same old grind with a vengeance! I just got reamed over the phone by a patron whose library card was barred for incorrect address. Apparently her newly divorced ex-husband informed the post office that she no longer lived at her address, thus the card was not delivered and instead returned to the library with a bar automatically put on her account. She told me she doesn't have enough time or money to go to the library to show ID and get the situation resolved and implied that it was some sort of personal persecution campaign that the library had directed at her. I explained what she would need to do, why she needed to do it and during the course of the conversation she told me that the name on her account isn't even her legal last name anymore. I told her that I empathized, but that the library is a bureaucratic government system that has to have rules in order to function. She finally hung up on me! Now her card is barred for both name and address. I'm glad I didn't give her my name.
