He has not learned the lesson of life who does not every day surmount a fear. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

I wondered how long it would take
for someone to complain about the title chosen for our branch Book Club. The title in question is Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut, an Indiana native. The main character, Billy Pilgrim, relates some of Vonnegut's own experiences during World War II and witnessing the destruction of Dresden. The complaint was that it is inappropriate and should be withdrawn immediately. Now, I didn't pick the title, and I admit to being a little surprised by the choice, but I approve of it wholeheartedly. The way we Americans see war now is so remote and detached, and apparently a little dose of the reality of war made at least one of our patrons very uncomfortable.
