He has not learned the lesson of life who does not every day surmount a fear. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

I met up with my pool playing buddies this week at the Side Pocket. Even though the tables are more expensive there ($1 per game) than the $3 cover charged at my normal pool hall, it was still good to be in a hall that was bustling with league players and the music was heavenly. Tommy and Jay didn't show up till 9, and even though my game is rusty to the extreme, I even won a couple. Some oldster chose the music, I don't know if it was a jukebox or recorded music, but it was a vast improvement to the recent experience I had at Break and Run. After I was charged a cover and told there was a DJ, I played pool for about an hour to the unremitting thump of rap. After the second song in a row about bitches, I decided I didn't have to listen to it anymore and asked the D.J. to add more variety to his repertoire. He just sat there looking at me and then said he already had all the music loaded and that he was playing a variety. I'm pretty sure the idea of a DJ is to have such a wide variety of music that they're able to accommodate requests. I didn't care for his attitude or his song lyrics and told him that I was leaving due to his misogynistic choice of noise. I haven't been back since. Sure, Break and Run is a great deal. For $3 you get to play unlimited games, but you'll have to be able tolerate the auditory abuse!
