Listening

I've been told that I'm not a very good listener, as a matter of fact I've been told that on more than one occasion, so I'm starting to believe that it's true. I know all the attributes and rules for being a good listener, but admit that I don't always follow them. I have an awful habit of interrupting. So, if you're talking to me and I suddenly clamp my hand over my mouth, don't worry I'm not going to hurl on you, I'm only training myself to stop interrupting. I was doing this for awhile and it was pretty effective, but as soon as I stopped my bad habit resumed.

My mind also wanders off like a willful two year old and sometimes I'm too embarrassed to admit that I just missed the last five minutes of our conversation because of inattentiveness. If I look directly in the speaker's eyes while they're talking, it helps me  stay on track, but those direct gazes are unnerving for some, some might even call it staring, which of course is just another bad habit, sigh...
