We opened the hive. The second deep super has three to four frames
bursting with brood, along with several frames of honey stores. The
brood is visible proof that the queen is thriving, along with the
general ncrease in numbers of bees. So far I've seen no signs of
foulbrood, excessive mites, or waxmoths. I didn't think we would get
any honey this year, but if the bees are this prolific in the middle of
drought, they're going to be producing more honey than they need by
August or September. That would need to be harvested to prevent
swarming. So, we may end up getting a full honey super for our
consumption after all. We're going to visit Reckeweg Honey Co. this
Saturday to help with honey harvest. It would be more exciting to think
about if it weren't so dang hot. I wish it would rain!
