Smug status obsessed ugly Americans

I just had  a very demoralizing experience sitting at a local lunch counter. An average looking family was  already seated at the counter. I took the only remaining seat and tried to read, but was unable to block out their conversation. He was totally engrossed in his smart phone and occasionally spared a couple of seconds to interact with his preschool son, usually to wrest cutlery from his grasp. Then Dad started joking about friends of theirs who were planning to take a $900 6-day vacation package in Acapulco. He laughed and said, "Acapulco is a turd not even a legitimate vacation destination anymore." She added that she'd been there twice but the beaches weren't satisfactory because you had to taxi to them. Then stated she wouldn't be vacationing on the cheap, and said,  "Remember, I'm the woman who checked out of a  motel that was already paid for and went to a different one because it wasn't up to my standards." A few minutes later they paid their bill and left, leaving most of their food uneaten. Apparently the food wasn't up to their standards either.

Yep, that is what is wrong with this county. And the kid will grown up thinking this is the proper way to act. Sad really.
