Well the fledglings out of the nest

Ben and I took Chrish to school today. We got off to a rocky start. While I was fixing breakfast, I heard a loud crash from the driveway. When I stuck my head out the front door and asked what happened, Chrish said the TV had fallen out of the back of the car while he was putting something else inside. I asked him if it might still work and he said he didn't think so because it made a loud hissing noise. Oh well, so much for the TV. My Vue had been sitting there for so long, that I thought it would be a good idea to check the air pressure in the tires before we took off. The first station we went to was a relatively new BP. After depositing 75 cents the machine proceeded to put out about as much air pressure as I can! The next station was better, but the tires were so low that I ran out of time before the mission was accomplished. After two more trips in for more change, finally the tires had enough air and we were on the road. Chrish snored all the way there. The faculty was definitely prepared for the onslaught, but we arrived too late for the move-in help and Chrish's room was on the third floor. I was dismayed to find that I'd completely forgotten about buying him a new mattress pad. We set off on a shopping mission and wandered around lost in residential suburbia until Ben volunteered to use the Easy Navigator GPS service on his phone. It worked like a charm and we were on our way to Bed Bath and Beyond when I spotted the Penneys Home Store at Greencastle. Hallelujah! they had XL twin bed size and it was only a couple of bucks more than Walmart and much better quality, so that made me happy. We got back and helped Chrish carry his loot up to his room. He bought an area rug and other sundry stuff, but the room still looked pretty stark and bare. I snuck in some kisses, then Ben and I headed home. Ben read Reader's Digest jokes to me all the way home which made things easier, but then Chrish called. He forgot the itinerary paper in the car and wanted Ben to read it to him. Ben told him that we'd already cleaned it out of the car with the trash on the way out of town and Chrish said he found another one anyway. He also said his roommate still hadn't moved in. I started thinking about my baby being there in a strange place with no friends and 5 days before school starts and the tears just started rolling. It's like I timetripped right back to the day leaving him at preschool for the first time. This is definitely going to take some adjustment for all of us. I'm sure that he'll make the adjustment just fine. He's such a personable guy and makes friends easily. I'm the one that's stuck in the same old creaky house in the same old job, without even the cat to keep me company. Whaaaaaaaa

I think I know how you feel. I had to drop MY baby (daughter) at the Navy Recruiting Office for her to go to basic training. Then about a week later I got a box in the mail, and inside was everything she was wearing the day she left. Oh, that was traumatic...... She spent her birthday at basic training. And had to run 2 miles before she was allowed a call home four weeks after she left.

She's doing well now. I hope your son has a wonderful college experience.
