Identity theft for a graduation gift?

I read an email today notifying me that my son's university's database security had been breached and students' names, social security numbers, and birth dates had been hacked. The databases that were breached were two years old so I don't think this will have any effect on my freshman son. You have to feel some sympathy for new graduates. It must sound like, "Thanks for paying $120,000. in tuition, here's your diploma and by the way, our security system wasn't sufficient to protect you from identity theft." At the same time I'm unable to communicate with my other son through his university email. After the second email transmission failure report, I called him and he told me they've been having problems with it for more than a week. This doesn't exactly inspire confidence!
