Knitting in the round

I started a new pattern for a baby blanket for a expectant co-worker. It's done in the round and even though I found some fantastic video tutorials on www.KnittingHelp.com, I've started it over three times now. For the beginning I need to use two sets of cable needles simultaneously. Mix that with two yarn chasing cats and you get a study in frustration, but I'm nothing if not persistent, so here goes attempt #4!

I'm going to give it one more try before I admit defeat. The pattern starts with just 5 stitches. I got it started once, but I must have had the end of the row marker in the wrong spot, because my circle started changing into an oval.
