Just the facts...
It is another Saturday in an endless string of alternate Saturdays that I've worked for 24 long years. What's different about this Saturday is that I was hoping to take it as a vacation day. I asked for two weeks vacation (May 24th- June 5th) on April 8, but on April 14th, I received a reply from my boss to my emailed request saying I could have all of the days except for the Saturday in the middle. Since the plan had been to take a long camping trip on the bike and actually manage to cover some distance while still having some time to relax at the destination, I declined to take both weeks and just took one so that I could work the Saturday in question (today). I was told that in order to ensure that I could have my time off for vacation covered by other staff, I needed to request my vacation time three months in advance. Last week, the boss marked herself off for vacation Thursday, Friday, (she already had Saturday off) for an extended Holiday weekend. For the staff the vacation request time is three months, but for the boss, two days is adequate.
