Things My Parents Taught Me

My dad asked me last week what I'd learned from him and my Mom. I was caught a little off guard and wanted to give it some thought before answering. My parents were never big on words of wisdom, most of what I learned from them was gleaned from example; but they did have one great rule to live by, the Golden Rule and I've tried to pass that along to my boys.

-Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
-Frugality is next to Godliness.
-When times get tough, get tougher.
-Gifts made with the hands are gifts from the heart.
-One of the best ways to ensure your child's academic success is to read to them.
-Share your disagreements with your partner, not your children.
