The end, for agribusiness dairy farmer plow- it- from- fence -to- fence Mark Assholder
(I admit taking liberties with the surname) came when he allowed his brand new wife to use his fb page to insult me and add disparaging remarks to his comments (Nice to meet you, too!).
I sent him the following msg.
Mark, You'll have to find someone else's fb page to troll. I wanted to be tolerant of your agribusiness and conservative republican attitudes, but having your brand new wife call me "stupid" and make disparaging remarks made me realize that I don't have to wear you like a hair shirt. Good luck to you and to your new wife. You so closely share the same attitudes and tolerances that I'm sure you'll be very happy together.
Then I un-friended him, There are many reasons it took so long for my resolve to build. For one, my parents share quite a few of those same conservative republican attitudes, so my skin is pretty thick, and it somehow seemed like disloyalty to my parents to be intolerant of him and his fb troll tramping ways. Then there's the excellent article, The Meming Of Life, posted by my friend, Jane.
So for a long time, I wore Mark Assholder like a hair shirt... until his brand new wife decided to insult me (as a form of introduction from the safety of his fb- apparently she doesn't have enough personality to have one of her own) and to wonder why her new hubby, Mark Assholder, would ever have dated me. Well, I refrained from giving her this news- It wasn't for long! I was very young, but it didn't take long to figure out that he'd been 2- timing me with Audrey Fisher. She and I mutually and publicly dumped him. Fastforward 35 years, either he's changed and doesn't deserve to have ancient history dredged up, or she'll get her just desserts-one or the other! ;->

Good for you Julie. We all need to get rid of the asshats in our lives.
I too have a fb page and have a very limited selection of friends. Mostly locals we ride with or I work with.
I have tried to have friends on fb from high school (over 20 years ago) and it doesn't seem to work. As we get older we seem to grow and our opinions change, some more than others.
I usually quietly 'unfriend' and wonder how long it took them to even notice.
Kudos for you to unfriending the unfriendly. Hopefully you won't need to use the block tool too.
Have a great weekend.
~*Hugs*~... could be worse... I've been with my husband going on 13 years, and his ex-wife after her latest divorce decided to stalk us! She friended me on MySpace and probably has pictures of our kids? She is sick and has yet to move on with her life...
Rather have someoen that clashes with my views... hahaha... a stranger I am hoping??? Instead of an ex, like my husband's! Mentally ill... instead of strond willed... lol
Hi Julie, I also have friends with widely varied backgrounds and political beliefs and I too have thought about removing them from my F.B. friends list. But as you stated and your friends article on silos pointed out it's a worthy cause to maintain friends from various backgrounds. However; when they start harassing you can calling you names I'd agree that that is going a little too far. It seems to be a problem these days. Almost any discussion group I view on line turns to name calling and hatred. It's a sad state of affairs....
mommaclark, I can empathize, my ex's sister was a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, who irregularly called and said very strange and inappropriate things to our children. I was always afraid she was going to turn up on our doorstep. I wouldn't have been able to turn her away, but I don't think I would have been able to sleep with her in the house, she had a strange fascination with knives.
VtMusher,
It is a sad state of affairs, and I guess my own ability to be tolerant isn't as strong as I think it should be. I just can't stand it that people who watch certain news entertainment and commentary shows, accept it as gospel w/o exposing themselves to any others'viewpoints or the facts.
