I HATE gravel!

I took  a little ride this weekend. I've almost felt too guilty to take the bike out just  for the pure joy of it. It's starting to seem like a crime against the earth, and all humanity to frivolously waste gas for a joy ride, but if there's a quest such as the one I had, to track down live starts of Jersey Supreme asparagus at the Amish greenhouse...Well, then that's a  different matter. I  was clipping along at 70 mph on  37, but missed my turn because some loco farmer boy was right on my tail with his pick-me-up with attached trailer filled with farm equipment. My excuse for going so fast was to open up a gap to enable me to make a left hand turn, but he just stayed right on my tail. So, I decided to double back from Harlan, and then proceeded to get magnificently lost on the country roads. I started down Cuba for the second time and then followed it around to the Art Farm  to stop and see Lisa and Paul and to get directions right from the horses mouth. The road to their house deteriorates to gravel, then dirt, then a smattering of pavement, back to gravel again. Did I mention that I hate gravel? When I left I was glad to hear that the way to the greenhouse from their house required a shorter distance be traveled on gravel, but Lisa also let me know that it had been freshly graveled. Did I mention that I hate gravel? I was in 2nd gear, just holding on and sweating, trying to sit as skinny as possible,  and it was truly one of the worst times on my bike ever. It was nearly as bad as the time  I dropped the bike on the giant gravel at the Potholes. Did I mention that I hate gravel?! Well, I finally made it to the Amish greenhouse, but when I arrived found a long driveway, freshly graveled! Aaaarrrrrrrgh! I whipped the bike around and parked on the edge of the road. Enough was enough with the gravel! and promptly slid ditch-wise in the mud. I left a nice 4-5 " rut getting back up on the road. That must be why they need so much dang gravel! I got some lovely Jersey asparagus, plus a couple of clematis vines for the side of the house and headed for home feeling pretty good that I managed to keep the shiny side up. The asparagus is all planted and was watered all night by the never-ending rain, which made my narcissus extra pretty this morning.
