It was a chaotic Mother's Day. We'd planned to go to the lake, but Dad didn't feel well enough to have company. Chrish and Molly were home, and Ben was supposed to get home in the afternoon. Those young pups slept right through breakfast time, so I made us a nice grilled chicken salad, then took off for Hydes to deliver lunch to J. The boys spent that time digging out some sod where I'm planting some step-able ground cover. When I got to Hydes, I called home to see what the boys' plans were and where we were going to meet Carol and her family for dinner. Chrish said Carol called, that Dad was really sick and Mom was freaking out, so they were canceling the dinner plans and heading up there.  So, I raced home to give Mom a call. She said Dad had a cold with a lot of congestion and that he just wasn't feeling well, but she sounded calm and as though they were managing just fine. That was a reprieve for my jangly nerves so I told the boys I'd like to go buy some more mulch for the yard and look at the plants. When we got back, we sat out in the sun on the back deck and played Buzzword which was a lot of fun. Then J got home from Hydes and we decided to eat at the Munchie. I knew it would please Ben to sample from their microbrewery. As a last bow to tradition, we stopped at Zesto's on the way back home, and Chrish and Molly headed back to Indy from there. I was just settling in at home, looking forward to a few minutes of reading The Paper Garden, when the phone rang. It was Molly, she said,"I just want to let you know that we're on the side of the road on 69, that we hit a deer, but we're OK." I told her I would be right there to pick them up. When I got there, the police officer was still writing up the report. The truck in front of Chrish hit the first of three deer and Chrish got the last one. It took out the other driver's windshield completely. I don't know how he escaped being injured. Chrish's truck was missing the left headlight and it looked like his radiator was cracked. Kelly Wrecker was johnny on the spot to pick up the other vehicle and was big enough to carry two, so we decided to have his truck hauled home, and Ben would drive Molly and Chrish down to Indy since Molly had to get to work. I was groaning about how long we would have to stay awake waiting for the tow truck to arrive when we pulled up in front of the house to find a cop standing behind J's car with his flashlight trained on the license plate. A drunk driver had made it half way down the block and then rammed into the back of J's car. The back tire was flat, along with the scraped left rear quarter panel, and the very real possibility that the back wheel was broken, or the rear axle bent.  J talked to the police officer, while I sat on the porch and reflected on how crappily the day had ended. Then the tow truck arrived, but missed our driveway and proceeded to drop Chrish's truck halfway down the block for the tidy sum of $133. J had to back it up our one-way street to park it in the driveway. I think for Mother's Day next year, I'm going to ask that everyone just stay home safe.

When it rains it pours..... I'm glad everyone was safe, but I don't blame you if you stay inside next year for Mother's Day!
