Tough weekend

We hauled Dad back from the brink again. He's had a bad cough that started a couple of weeks ago, then Carol called and said Mom was really worried. He'd been up all night coughing, had completely lost the desire to eat, and his leg was swollen and painful.  When I got up there Friday, they'd made an appt. to see the GP. We were afraid it was pneumonia, but it turned out to be even worse. The Dr. ordered a scan of his leg and found  a  blood clot from ankle to groin. Blood clots are one of the side effects from the drug, Avastin, and when they investigated further, they found a blood clot in each lung as well. The started administering heparin and coumadin intravenously, and he's responding, but will be in the hospital for at least 2-3 more days. I've been afraid to make the phone call each morning to check with his nurse. When I called before leaving for work, they transferred me to his room and I got to talk to him for a few minutes. I felt guilty for waking him, he dozes off at the drop of a hat, but hasn't had any sustained sleep for a couple of weeks. He filled me in on the list of visitors he had after I left, and I was glad to hear that his friends are showing their concern. He's improving, but he's not out of danger yet.

Meanwhile, my youngest progeny called needing a ride home from Indy, so Chocolate Eyes once again saved the day by driving to fetch him. Chrish hasn't seen his truck since the night they hit the deer. He's still hoping that it can be repaired, but I think it's a goner. The core frame is bent back, the radiator is probably leaking, and the fan is pushed back almost into the motor. The left headlight frame will need to be replaced, along with the headlight itself, and I'm leery of him driving a vehicle that has a compromised frame. I'm hoping he'll decide to total it out and take it to salvage. I know it'll be tough finding another dependable vehicle cheaply, but I hope that's what he decides.
