I've had an eventful day already and it's only noon. I opened both hives this morning. J had worried me because he thought it looked as though the bees were cross combing in the top bar. He laid on his back under the hive and looked up. I tried it too, but didn't care for it too much. The bees that hang around on the bottom of the top bar did some pretty aggressive dive bombing at my face. Well, when I opened it this morning, it couldn't have looked more perfect. They already had 5 bars of comb pulled. I didn't see a lot of brood, but did see some, so there has to be a queen in there somewhere. I searched and searched to no avail and it makes me understand why some beeks mark their queens. I like the top bar for hive inspection, but I need to brush up on some of my methods. Getting the top bars back in place with all those curious bees trying to come out at the same time isn't easy. I also had the camera with me, but didn't have enough hands to take pictures inside the hive as I wished. I just had time to get cleaned up, jump on the bike and ride into work, only to find this in the recycle bin. Hmmmmm..........

I am glad the bees are settling in. Looks like the garden is taking off too.
