Murphy's law is alive and well, I just bought a kayak and it has rained every one of my days off since. I haven't figured out how to get it on top of my car by myself, needed help with that. I did manage to get it off and schlepped into the garage. That was after I took it up to Mom's the day my sisters and I moved her into the new condo. Some people from her church helped with the move and it was invaluable help. I don't know how my sisters and I would have done it without them. We loaded up the first couple loads of boxes and the men from her church took care of moving all the furniture for her. The brand new fridge and built-in oven went with the house. The person who's buying the lakehouse really got a deal, but technically the financing isn't finalized yet, so the property still belongs to Mom at this point. I'm so glad Mom is finally moved into her condo. Everything is fresh and new and clean and she's happy to have her life simplified. I don't think I can go back to the lakehouse again, it's just too heartbreaking to see the place where our family gathered for so many years change into someone else's home. I did dig up a peony bush start, so now I have a honeysuckle vine from the homeplace and a peony from the lakehouse. Mom's been sick for the last week and she ended up in the emergency room the day after the move very dehydrated and weak. She's home and on the mend now, but was so ill during the move that she just sat in a chair and directed the move from there and then napped in the afternoon. My sisters and I were worried that she wouldn't be able to find things that we'd stowed away for her, but she was feeling so ill that she said she'd just find them later. So, her house is arranged to my sisters' and my liking. On the way home I lost the hatch cover from the kayak on 69.
I retraced that stretch several times searching for it, but every black
piece of rubber I saw was a blown tire. I have a call into the store
where I purchased it and they're checking on the availability and price
of a replacement. They've discontinued my model of kayak and the new
model has a hatch cover that permanently attaches. Good grief! Well, at least Mom is all moved in and she's happy in her lovely new carefree home.
