The bees

Chrish helped me inspect the hive and add frames to the empty honey super J and I put on to help with air flow through the hive. They're thriving, with lots of comb yet to fill. I did see some drone cells, but no queen cells. The hive still smelled faintly of thyme, but the bees cleaned every bit of the paper towel out of the hive. I need to work on acclimating them to movement more. I've gotten two stings while home, but they don't hurt nearly as much as bee-stings did when I was a child. I still don't relish the thought of the whole hive getting mad at me at once. When the beekeeping books talk about leaving the hive alone on windy, or rainy days they have good reason for it. Apparently the bees get as cranky as I do when trapped indoors.

Neato.

I bet the bees are loving all those flowers blooming by the hives.

They love the Russian Sage best. The day lilies were there when I bought the house, but I planted raspberries there and the lilies were overgrown by raspberries. Years later, the raspberries got rust and I dug them out, and the lilies magically appeared again.
